Lost Snowman
With The Journey of the Lost Snowman I try to visualize emotions about certain situations. Longing, insecurity, fear, freedom and others will accompany the snowman on his journey.
The images are designed exclusively for FineArt-Print (rendering density 300dpi or 600dpi (VI and VII) and .tif file format).
Lost Snowman VI - Visitors
Image description:
curiosity
It is the unknown that appears friendly and colorful. The landscape appears almost dreamy, where trees and water appear strange in the unreal light. Uncertainty in the unknown is triggered by the flying objects, which seem to be searching to illuminate the area. Are they threatening or do they want to help the visitor?
In the realm of unknown,
friendly it seems,
Colors dance,
painting surrealistic dreams.
The landscape, a canvas,
ethereal and rare,
Trees and water bathed
in a light unfair.
Uncertainty awakens,
in the unknown's embrace,
Flying objects, seeking
to illuminate the space.
Are they bearers of threat
or guides to lend aid,
In this mystic realm
where questions are laid?
In this enigma's grasp,
the visitor stands,
Caught betwixt wonder,
as time's shifting sands.
Their intentions veiled,
a riddle to unfold,
Do they harbor darkness
or a kindness untold?

history of creation
After I had worked out the longing for change, for something new in essential parts with "Coast" (Lost Snowman V) (2012), but now it was stuck, I wanted to dare to fulfill it hereafter.
It should be an image with rivers and lakes, as this embodies a natural landscape and the basis of sedentary life. Kept simple. It should appear positive, but also show the threat of the unknown.
For weeks I experimented with constantly changing landscapes. Sometimes more plants, sometimes less. Constant repositioning of location and reorientation of perspective. Some interesting approaches emerged, but nothing more. I didn't get any further, I put the project aside ...
When I had "Coast" hanging on my wall in 2016, I dared to revive "Visitors" (then called "Guests"). I had learned a lot about atmospheric influences and how to control them in the course of the mood development of "Coast", so I tried out the new knowledge and finally got the unreal coloring in trees and water that made the picture appear as I perceive the unknown positively. Areas to discover but also dense forest that contains some hidden things. Soft colors that don't look threatening, but don't take away the secrets from the picture and make everything appear striking.
It took me many weeks to come up with the idea of the UFOs to add something unknown but not immediately threatening to the "fairytale" tranquil landscape. I think the coloring of these objects alone took 3 months :-)
The project then called for a break again: The rendering results were far from what I wanted to express in terms of color... too flat, too foggy and with every fine adjustment the colors jumped into comic-like colors. The picture wasn't ready yet.
After I stopped all my artistic activities in 2017 in favor of my job, I finally found the time and leisure to finish my pictures in 2022 as a retiree.
In 2022, the picture rewarded me with bright colors. Now it's hanging in the living room and it still makes me think every day....
